Chapati Indian flat bread is simple to make and can be eaten with many things like curries and why not try it and make it fresh.
Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour, sifted
- ½ cup whole wheat flour
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm water, use more if needed
- Extra flour for rolling
Directions:
- In a bowl mix the flour and the salt.
- Slowly stir in oil and water, and then knead until firm and elastic.
- Cover the dough and leave it to rest for 30 minutes.
- Divide the though into eight balls, and roll each ball on a lightly floured surface into a circle with a rolling pin.
- Heat a griddle or a frying pan over medium-high heat.
- Cook the chapatti on both sides pressing down gently with a kitchen towel until golden brown.
- If desired, sprinkle with butter before serving.
