This is a sweet vermicelli dish, it is fried with oil to get a nice brown color, spices are added to give a nice fragrant aroma. This could a side dish as a dessert or it could be eaten with rice.
Ingredients:
- 200g/7 oz fine vermicelli, broken into half
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 cardamom pods cracked
- 3 cloves
- ¼ cup sugar or to taste
- 4 table spoons ghee/oil
- 2 ½ cups of water
Directions:
- Heat the ghee or oil and the spices in a skillet or a pan over medium heat.
- Add the vermicelli and fry until it is golden, stirring with an wooden spoon.
- In another pan boil water and the sugar.
- Slowly add the boiled water to the vermicelli and cook about
10 minutes, until liquid evaporates and the vermicelli is cooked. - Put the vermicelli in bowl and refrigerate.
- Serve cold or warm.
This reminds me of a recipe for rice pudding exept with rice noodles instead.
I just made something similar but used jasmine rice instead for a sweet rice dish!
Assalamu Alaikum
I love your site, it is very helpful. I have learned many new recipes here, my husband loves them all. I had a quick question, do I cook the pasta first or fry in the butter uncooked?
Wa Alaikum Salaam sis,
Many thanks for the comments.
After you fry in the butter uncooked, then you add the water and that will cook it.
I hope this helps.
